All of the Yoga Classes at our studios are “Hatha” Yoga Classes. Hatha is the Indian name for the physical practice of yoga. The main component of Hatha is yogic postures- or asanas, the Sanskrit word for a comfortable, stable pose. Under the umbrella of Hatha a number of particular styles have been developed such as Iyengar, Kundilini, Ashtanga, Anusara, & Bikram.

Most of our classes are a blend of these different styles; read below for the specifics. Experience the benefits, start your journey today.

Group Class Descriptions

NEW STUDENTS to our studio often start by entering our ongoing classes. The appropriate class to start with depends on your background and physical condition. Please always introduce yourself to the teacher and let her/him know your level and experience. For those who prefer  a more structured introduction, we offer a wonderful educational program called Yoga 101, as well as a Yoga Foundations Series that is a great standalone course or as a follow-up to 101.   Private and Semi-Privates are wonderful for NEW as well as experienced yogis.  You will work individually with a teacher at a time that is convenient. See our Private Training page for more information. We can also arrange for small groups of up to 8 who would like to start together. After reading through the classes below, please call the studio at 919-466-9989 to ask for advice in class selection if you are unsure.

Some of our ongoing classes on the schedule are “leveled”. Please inquire if unsure which one is most appropriate for you. If a class is not labeled with a specific level, it is open to all levels. “All level” classes offer different approaches to Hatha Yoga that can benefit every mind and body. Class cards are used for all ongoing Yoga and Pilates classes.

Level 1 – For students with little to no yoga experience, the poses are presented in their most basic form.
Level 1/2 -For students who are knowledgeable and comfortable with basic yoga principles.
Level 2 – For students who feel ready to deepen their yoga practice, more complicated poses are introduced.
Level 2+ – For students who are in a strong physical condition with minimal limitations.

Hatha Yoga

Hatha Yoga is a traditional class that focuses on alignment and finding balance between strength and flexibility.  Expect to sustain each pose for several breaths moving deeper into your body, mind and practice.  Props are often used to modify each posture according to your physical needs.  Class will end with calming, restorative poses and relaxation to enhance your internal experience.

Gentle Yoga

Gentle Yoga is a slower paced Hatha Class. A great FIRST Class or long-term class for those who want longer stretches, less “up and down” movement and more relaxation. This class is inspired by the tradition of Iyengar with the use of props for alignment

Vinyasa Stretch Yoga

Vinyasa Stretch Yoga will move you through a traditional heat building flow duing the first half of class to warm the body and challange strength, stability, and balance –vinyasa flow – and then focus on opening up those tight areas like hamstrings, shoulders & hips during the last half – stretch! A fabulous class for both the Yoga Practioner and the Athlete who is new to yoga and in need of its benefits. a no-frills, crisp, clean class – Vinyasa Stretch may be just what you have been looking for.

Ashtanga Flow Yoga

Ashtanga Flow Yoga is a Vinyasa-style class with Ashtanga inspiration. For those students with a basic knowledge of yoga poses, this is a more “regimented” style of yoga than our standard “vinyasa flow classes”. We will incorporate breath and movement together to create a moving meditation, starting with Sun Salutations as a method of warming the body and stimulating awareness. Expect to get warm and leave feeling worked yet reenergized.

Vinyasa Flow Yoga

Vinyasa Flow Yoga is an active heat-building practice that encourages movement with breath. Be prepared for an invigorating blend of poses that seamlessly flow together building mobility, strength and flexibility to energize the body and mind.

Prenatal Yoga

Prenatal Yoga classes provide safe postures that help with the common discomforts of a changing body and growing baby. Prenatal yoga has the benefits of increased energy and self-awareness; more balanced emotions, and heightened intuition. The emphasis on Yogic techniques of breathing and meditation allows the expectant mother self-empowerment while fully embracing her pregnancy.  Prenatal Classes are on-going so you may join at any time.  We do ask your doctor to provide a note approving of your attendance.  You may bring that to us or have the office e-mail us approval. 

Aerial Yoga

Aerial Yoga is one of the newest yoga styles that is a fusion of regular yoga and aerial acrobatics done in a suspended aerial silk  AerialSavasanahammock designed to deepen stretches. Aerial yoga allows the body to reap the benefits of inversions without strain to the neck or the joints of the body, allowing for more intense benefits from postures.  More information on aerial yoga and pictures from class can be found here.

Yoga 101 Express & Foundation Workshops (Introductory Classes)

Yoga 101 is a great “structured” first class for those new to Yoga. Lots of personal attention is given! Yoga 101 is offered monthly and requires a separate registration due to the additional materials given to participants and the smaller class size.  The cost is $39 (single 2-hour educational class).  Contact the studio or refer to our Workshops page for the latest schedule and enroll for an upcoming Yoga 101 class or series.

Yoga Student Guidelines

  • Remove your shoes before entering the studio.
  • Alert your instructor to any physical problems or medical conditions.
  • Practice on an empty stomach.
  • Arrive a few minutes early. If being late is unavoidable, please call the studio so we can have a mat set out for you upon your arrival.
  • Wear clothing you can easily move in.
  • Be kind and loving to yourself by accepting yourself as you are.
  • Yoga is non-competitive, so abandon your competitive mind set.
  • Acquire and use your own Yoga mat – it is great to build yogic energy on your own personal mat and it just makes sense for many reasons to purchase a blanket to go on top of our mat.
  • Please turn off all cell phones and pagers during class!
