Marjorie Ginsberg

Marjorie Ginsberg – Client Spotlight

Meet one of super amazing clients, Marjorie Ginsberg…Marjorie is such a thoughtful person and we are blessed to have her here at studioVIBE.  Thank you Marjorie for the support and friendship you extend to all of us!  xoxo

Where were you born and how did you end up in Cary, NC?

I was born in Manhattan, grew up in Philadelphia. Came to Cary via New England in 1995.

What brought you to studioVIBE?

I started doing yoga at the Y in the late 90s. After several years I wanted a calmer, cleaner, more restful environment. I looked around for my two favorite yoga teachers from the Y – Stacie Dombrowski and Phyllis Adams. They were both teaching at studioVIBE, which is what initially brought me in the door.

Since you have been coming to studioVIBE, what do you look forward to the most?

These days, Advanced Mat on Tuesday at 9:30 (I like the continuous motion, no frills/modifications, challenge of advanced exercises) and P40 on Wednesday at 8:30 (I like the emphasis on arms, inner and outer thigh, glutes as a compliment to Pilates. You will never injure or overwork, but will get a “bootcamp” level workout.)

Congrats on being a new Grandma! I am sure only Grandma’s really know what it is like…but can you explain how it feels to be Will’s Nana?

It’s amazing to see your children being loving and dedicated parents.

Tell us about the volunteer work you do.

I work at InterAct answering a Crisis and Information line for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. I have previously worked as a Child Advocate, Wake County Guardian Ad Litem and Cary Citizen Assisting Police.

Do you have a favorite vacation spot or what was your favorite vacation?

Montana, Maine, Puerto Rico, London, France, Italy, Asheville, Emerald Isle

So tell us about you…tell us about your life outside of studioVIBE and what you do for fun?

I retired from a marketing and strategy career in the tech industry and am now a student of Tarot, Astrology and the Subtle Body. I am a life long reader, relatively recent Hurricanes fan, follower of my husband’s bands (Moonlight Rescue Band and No Worries), and lover of makeup and perfume.
Just for fun…If you were stuck on a deserted island what 3 things would you bring?

iPad, big hat, fan

Any last-minute thoughts for someone contemplating walking in our doors?

If you are someone who needs variety you will be very happy here. I come 5x a week and rarely take the same class twice. If you like to work around a specific time slot (mine is 9:30am) you can come every day and experience a different class or teacher. I find it is easier to be consistent about my practices and avoid scheduling other commitments when I have a predictable time that I attend.

What are three words you would use to describe studioVIBE?

Energetic, optimistic, dedicated

Liz Blackman – studioVIBE Client Spotlight

Meet Liz Blackman, we fell in love with her during her first “hundred”!

Tell us about you…
I was born in Pennsylvania (Easton, near Allentown) and moved to Raleigh, NC when I was 4. I attended Athens Drive High School. I went to UNCW for my freshman year of college and then transferred to NC State—GO PACK! After that, I attended Campbell Law School in downtown Raleigh.  I  passed the bar exam in 2015 – Woo Hoo!

What brought you to studioVIBE?
I was looking for a place to escape the stress of law school and my internships and be able to take care of myself both, physically and mentally.

You just celebrated your first anniversary – congratulations and 6 months before your wedding you graduated from Campbell Law School, how in the world did you fit time in to come to studioVIBE? Honestly, it was what kept me sane a lot of the time. I just told myself that I needed to remember to make time for me, whether that meant going to a class at 6:15am or 6:15pm.

So you (obviously) are a dog lover…tell us more about this passion.
I’ve always had a deep love for animals, especially dogs. I feel like we can really learn a lot from them; their unconditional love, forgiveness, resilience and to not always take life too seriously. We really are the lucky ones that they chose us to be their best friends.

So you love dogs but we know you are in love with this guy – Cam Blackman – tell us about him? And yes how you met too!
Cameron truly is my rock and one of my biggest supporters (if not the biggest) in everything I do in life. He has encouraged me (and put up with me) through some of my most challenging moments in life. I am thankful for him every day. So, who is he? He’s a pretty awesome guy. He has the same passion for animals and the outdoors as I do. Whether we are riding off road or fishing at the lake, we soak in every moment. And how did we meet…well, Cam and I have known each other since middle school but we then went to different high schools (he went to Cardinal Gibbons in Raleigh). Luckily, we had a few friends in common and after work one night , during our senior year of HS, one of our mutual friends invited me to a bonfire…at Cam’s house. And really, we have been together ever since. He asked me to marry him in one of our favorite places in the world, Key West, during my first year of law school.  We returned back to tie the knot March 12, 2016.

That is awesome Liz! and we think Cameron is a lucky guy.  A couple more workout questions ..What classes do you take at studioVIBE?
I really like to mix it up but my favorites are Physique and Pilates Tower.

What is your favorite part about coming to our studio?
It feels like a family and not only do I get an awesome workout, I’m usually laughing my way through it. Oh, and the surprise visits from Colby are always a favorite!

Since you have been coming to studioVIBE, what do you look forward to the most?
Being able to take a moment out of the day where I focus and challenge myself and always leaving feeling accomplished.

If you had to pick three words to describe studioVIBE, what would those words be?
Fun, Challenging, Camaraderie

What would you tell someone who think Pilates is “easy”?
First I probably would have a good chuckle, then I would challenge them to take a class because no one who has actually taken a class would call it easy.

Any last minute words for someone who is contemplating getting started at studioVIBE?
Just do it. Your mind, body and spirit will not regret it. I promise.

And just for FUN, what 3 things would you want with you if stuck on a deserted island?
Coffee, a good book (or rather my Nook) and margaritas for the afternoon siesta 🙂

Ok…now a bit about why we #loveliz!  Liz Blackman brightens our day every single time she walks in the door.  She is a golden package: intelligent, compassionate, friendly,  and beautiful.  When there is a new client, we can count on Liz to help set up there mat and any needed equipment; she makes them feel like a “regular”.  Liz works hard in each of her classes and always leaves with a smile!   Thank you Liz for all you bring to studioVIBE!  xoxo

Tiffanie Taylor – studioVIBE Client Spotlight

“I feel so good when I leave! I honestly love every workout I have here!”  Tiffanie Taylor

Tell us about you…where were you born and how did you end up in Cary, NC?
I was born in Ohio, grew up in Mansfield, Ohio and went to OSU (I am a proud Buckeye!)-then, via Chicago, NYC, and Canterbury & London, England (where I went to graduate school, met my husband and had my oldest daughter), I came to settle in North Carolina in 2012. My parents moved here when I was in college so it was kind of my home away from home for many years. Now, five years and another daughter later we are settled here and loving it!

What originally brought you to studioVIBE?

I was looking for a studio that was close enough to both home and work that focused on Pilates/Barre/Yoga – studioVibe was the perfect fit, I am so glad I found it! I love the atmosphere, the classes and all the instructors and I also got to try something new I fell in love with-TRX!

Tell us a little about your water sports injury and when did it happen?

On September 13, 2016 I randomly decided while out on a friend’s boat to try wakeboarding…big mistake! We did not realize the boot bindings were not close enough together for me so I had trouble getting up and into position, then my lower left leg snapped from the pressure of the water! I was taken by ambulance to UNC where I had surgery and they inserted titanium plates and pins in from my knee down. I was in the hospital for a total of a week (the longest week ever!).

What classes are you taking and how have they helped with your rehab?

How soon after your injury did you come in?
After my surgery I was exactly three months non-weight bearing on my left leg. During this time, I did gentle mat exercises and Pilates at home, focusing solely on my core and arms. Then as soon as I could start standing on two feet again I got myself back in to the studio, first on the Tower and slowly worked my way up to Physique40. I had to go very slow but with persistence I quickly was coming in regularly again. I definitely credit my quick recovery to the fact I did Pilates on a regular basis before my injury! I am on a cane now, still recovering, but I am looking forward to getting back to TRX as soon as I can.

What is your favorite part about coming to our studio?

I feel so good when I leave! I honestly love every workout I have here…some people complain they hate working out and I say you must not be doing the right kind of work out or going to the right place then because I love all my workouts; my body always feels stronger and my mind feels clearer.

What would you tell someone who is feeling intimidated about coming to studioVIBE?

Everyone at studioVibe is so welcoming and accommodating, the instructors will help you find the right kind of workout to fit you. One of the best things about the studio is that you can find classes of all levels to attend. I love the Flexcard because it allows me to play around with classes and mix up the type of class and times that work for me and my schedule!

So tell us about you…tell us about your life outside of studioVIBE and what you do for fun?

I have a two daughters (a seven year old and a three year old) and an amazingly supportive husband, so the three of them take up most my free time. I work full-time at a private foundation in RTP that funds biomedical research and STEM education, and I am also very involved in the PTA at my daughter’s school. I also volunteer within our local community trying to be an advocate for community development and positive change.

Just for fun…What 3 things would you want if stuck on a deserted island?

A radio, a pillow and a blanket so I could have a long nap!

What was your favorite vacation?

I feel really lucky to have had so many amazing vacations but my favorite would probably be a toss-up between backpacking through SE Asia after I graduated from college, or staying at a beautiful resort in Belize with my husband, sister and brother in law.

If you had to pick three words to describe studioVIBE, what would those words be?

Welcoming, challenging, accommodating

Kim Krause – Client Spotlight

Kim Krause – Client Spotlight
“Truly Life Changing”, Kim’s 3-words for how she would describe studioVIBE…and Kim that means so much to all of us!

Tell us about you…where were you born and how did you end up in Cary, NC?
My husband (Don) and I both grew up and went to school in the Northeast (Go ‘Cuse!). After years of battling baby snowsuits, poor economies and job markets we did what everyone in 1998 seemed to do…. packed up our young family and moved to Cary, NC! As the 50,000+ people that followed will attest, it was the best decision we have ever made. My parents followed almost immediately, my brother (just recently), and we hope to have my sister-in-law and her family here soon as well.

Word has it you have known Patty Geiger for a while…tell us more?
Patty and I have known each other for close to 20 years! Within weeks of moving, we joined the Cary YMCA and there was Patty! She has inspired the best in me from the start. Although, through circumstance, our paths have come together and apart over the years, she has always felt like a constant in my life. Her energy and light have always made me smile and helped me flourish. I am so proud to be a part of this incredible community she has conceived and built around herself.

So then what got you in to studioVIBE?
It’s a familiar story……… as my family aged, we become busier and I was more focused on raising my children (Tori – now 24 and Evan – now 21) than on my own growth. As I approached a milestone birthday and my nest emptied, I recommitted myself to getting in shape. I promised myself that after I reached my goal, my reward would be to join Studiovibe. Of course, I never felt I was ‘there yet’. Last Christmas (2015) my husband surprised me with the gift of Patty 🙂 and yoga and the encouragement to go ‘now’. It ended up being a life changing gift.

You have been coming regularly, what classes are you taking?
Originally, I began taking the yoga classes I had looked forward to joining but just several weeks in, Patty casually commented that my body had loved Pilates (I had taken some beginning mat classes with her years ago) so I signed up for a Pilates Primer class. Just over one year later, I am hooked; perhaps mildly addicted! I typically take 1-2 yoga classes, a mat Pilates class, an Intermediate Pilates Reformer class and have just begun a new Advanced Mat Pilates class every week.

What changes have you noticed since coming to the studio?
Everything! Have I mentioned the “Life Changing” part? I am amazed at not only the transformation my body has undergone but also my spirit: I am happier, more confident, my concentration has increased and I have so much energy.

What is your favorite part about coming to our studio?
Every morning I look forward to my time at the studio and my time with each instructor and my fellow clients. Every instructor has had the confidence in me that I may not always have in myself to push me to succeed more and more each day. I leave every session feeling accomplished, energized and excited to do it again tomorrow! It’s so much more than a work-out place, it is a true community that extends beyond the studio. I love the fact that I work out beside like-minded 20 year olds and 60 year olds every day, partake in a monthly book club at the Studio and attend the Holiday Market and participate in charitable causes each year.

What was your favorite vacation and why?
It’s hard to pick just one……. any vacation with my family is my favorite! We love the beach and we loveWhat would you tell someone who thinks they are too out of shape to do Pilates soccer fields. Both Tori and Evan played soccer growing up, hence we spent almost every weekend away at a soccer game. Evan currently plays for UNC Chapel Hill and Tori is on staff with UNC’s women’s team (she played for Davidson college as an undergrad) so soccer travel is still a large part of our life. When we’re not at a game, we will always pick the beach!

Any last minute thoughts for someone contemplating walking in our doors?
Don’t wait, as I did, for the perfect time …….. do it now, do it today. Wherever you are in your journey, it is the perfect time to add Studiovibe.  Just over one year ago in the Pilates Primer class I was certain I wouldn’t make it to the end but I was encouraged and pushed by the instructor and not only did I make it to the end, I came back, and back, and back. Several months later, I watched a Reformer class and thought, ‘wow— wouldn’t that be great!’. Again, I was encouraged to try. I was pushed and encouraged to success and not only did I do it, I am now working on advanced exercises on the Reformer! Conversely, I would tell the same to anyone already in terrific shape………. there is always more to discover in Pilates, always a little more to pull out and little more to work. It may seem a daily practice would become stale but the inspirational instructors at StudioVibe are exceptional in their knowledge and experience and are always able to make it more challenging (and more rewarding!).  I am so thankful for each and every one of them!!!

Our turn to give thanks…
Kim Krause is a true “ray of sunshine” at our studio!  She is so hard-working and committed and super friendly to everyone.  We actually had a new client ask if she worked at the studio because she knew so many people’s names!  #GottaLoveKim

Thank you Kim for sharing a bit of your “personal story” with everyone. xoxo

Client Spotlight – Meet Evelyn Mullen

“Moving is life affirmation. The spark of life is precious and its force is exhibited through movement.”  Evelyn Mullen

Tell us about you…where were you born and how did you end up in Cary, NC?

I was born on a 19th century farm in South Carolina. All of us were lean and agile and able to sustain movement from sunup to sundown. My grandmother in her late sixties worked alongside the men and did not stop to lie down or quit. She died as she stood ready for another task.

Our family decided to become an intergenerational family. We needed a home with a floor plan for privacy and sharing. We found our house in Cary.

What brought you to studioVIBE?

A few years ago, I fell down a long flight of steps onto a concrete floor. I hit on my left side and sustained broken bones and abrasions. After rehab, I became fearful of falling again. My wonderful daughter encouraged me to sign up for 30 minute private lessons with Amy and Missy. With their encouragement, I was able to migrate to regular sessions of “Pilates for Life”.

After knee replacement, I was able to begin again as soon as rehab was completed.

How long have you been doing Pilates? 3 years

You have Rheumatoid Arthritis, along with other health issues, how has Pilates helped you?

Pilates has helped with flexibility and abdominal strength. With RA, tendons and ligaments become inflamed and tighten. Through stretching, some flexibility can be maintained. Balance is the greatest concern. Whenever I lose my balance, I can pull on my abs to stabilize.

With my teachers/mentors Amy and Missy, I am supported in what I can do and encouraged to get a little stronger.

Illness brings stress. Through Pilates, I have been able to manage stress successfully.

What would you tell someone who said that they were too “old” to start Pilates?

Get over it. This is it. This is your life. Mind and body work together. Be able to say on your death bed, “What is that new movement that I wanted to try?”

Anything else you would like to share?

Moving is life affirmation. The spark of life is precious and its force is exhibited through movement.
